Mount Hood, Oregon, 2016
Mount Hood is located at the base of the famous Timberline Lodge, a beautiful 55,000 square foot structure constructed in 1937. It’s one of Oregon’s most popular winter tourist attractions and has been visited by many celebrities, including Marilyn Monroe.
The famous Jack Nicholson movie “The Shining” was filmed here and the various wood hallways are filled with photos of celebrities who stayed there over the past 50 years. The Pacific Crest Trail goes through here, and there are plenty of hiking areas all around the mountain, as pictured below.
I climbed halfway up Mount Hood as I didn’t have the proper snow shoes or equipment to go the full 11,245 feet. But halfway was enough. Even though it was cold, I wasn’t dressed warm enough and there was plenty of fog, being up in the mountain in the clouds is always a profound and serene experience.
