Serena Kelley Big Ben National Park

Big Bend National Park, 2014

I went to Big Bend in May 2014 with my then boyfriend. The National Park is surrounded by the Chisos Mountains and has deserts, rivers, and mountains everywhere. There are three main campsites in Big Bend and we camped at the lowest level one close by the Rio Grande and the Mexico border. This campground had the most shade and trees, as the temperature ranged from 95 to 105 while there, as it is the middle of the desert.

Big Bend has countless hiking trails and off road trails, but the most beautiful views are certainly when you are kayaking down the Rio Grande. You have the USA on one side, and Mexico on the other. further down the Rio Grande are natural hot springs, which was cool to visit but also a strange sensation, sitting in hot springs when it’s 100 degrees out. Either way, Big Bend is spectacular, and I hope to be back again!
